Filtration Process and Equipment for Lithium Carbonate

New energy materials require extremely high purity, and the filtration process and equipment for lithium carbonate are critical factors in production, directly affecting product quality and production efficiency.

Filtration Process

  1. Pretreatment: Stir the lithium carbonate slurry evenly to ensure uniform particle distribution.
  2. Filtration: Separate solid lithium carbonate from the liquid using filtration equipment.
  3. Washing: Wash the filter cake with deionized water to remove residual impurities.
  4. Drying: Dry the filter cake to obtain the final lithium carbonate product.

Filtration Equipment

Plate and Frame Filter Press

  • Principle: Liquid is squeezed out of the slurry under pressure, leaving solids on the filter cloth.
  • Advantages: Simple structure, easy operation, suitable for small-scale production.
  • Disadvantages: Labor-intensive, low automation.

Chamber Filter Press

  • Principle: Similar to the plate and frame filter press, but with a chamber structure for a larger filtration area.
  • Advantages: High filtration efficiency, suitable for medium-scale production.
  • Disadvantages: Large equipment size, complex maintenance.

Belt Filter Press

  • Principle: Slurry passes through a continuously moving filter belt; liquid passes through, and solids remain on the belt.
  • Advantages: Continuous operation, high automation, suitable for large-scale production.
  • Disadvantages: High equipment cost, filter belt needs regular replacement.

Centrifugal Filter

  • Principle: Uses centrifugal force to separate solids and liquids.
  • Advantages: High separation efficiency, suitable for high-viscosity slurries.
  • Disadvantages: High energy consumption, complex equipment.

Vacuum Filter

  • Principle: Liquid is extracted by vacuum suction, leaving solids on the filter cloth.
  • Advantages: Suitable for fine particle filtration, continuous operation.
  • Disadvantages: Complex equipment, high maintenance costs.

Equipment Selection Considerations

  • Production Scale: Large-scale production favors belt or vacuum filters; small-scale production may use plate or chamber filter presses.
  • Slurry Characteristics: High-viscosity slurries suit centrifugal filters; fine-particle slurries suit vacuum filters.
  • Automation Needs: High automation needs favor belt or vacuum filters.
  • Budget: Limited budgets may opt for plate or chamber filter presses; ample budgets may choose belt or vacuum filters.
