Gelatin Filtration

Introduction

Gelatin filtration is an important step in the gelatin production process. Through processes such as coarse filtration, fine filtration, ultrafiltration and sterilization, impurities and undissolved particles in the gelatin solution are removed to improve the purity and quality of the gelatin. Commonly used filtration equipment includes plate and frame filters, candle filters, bag filters, ultrafiltration membrane filters and centrifuges.

Solutions

Cotton Cake Filter Press

  • Typical applications:
    • Food Grade Gelatin: gelatin for jelly, soft candy, and dairy additives.
    • Industrial Grade Gelatin: gelatin for adhesives, photo paper coatings, and textile processing.
  • Advantages: low cost and simple operation.
  • Disadvantages: low efficiency for high viscosity or high impurity liquids.

Diatomaceous Earth Filter + Stainless Steel Plate and Frame Filter

  • Typical applications:
    • Food Grade Gelatin: gelatin for jelly and candy.
    • Medical Grade Gelatin: capsules, pharmaceutical excipients.
  • Advantages: high product quality purity, suitable for continuous operation, large pollution capacity, suitable for medium and large-scale production.Disadvantages: relatively large loss of diatomaceous earth and filter paperDisadvantages: low efficiency for high viscosity or high impurity liquids.

Centrifuge + Diatomaceous Earth Filter + Stainless Steel Plate and Frame Filter + Membrane Filtration

  • Typical applications:
    • Medical grade, injection grade gelatin (required to be sterile and pyrogen-free).
    • High value-added products (such as collagen peptide refining).
  • Advantages: high precision and sterilizable.
  • Disadvantages: High equipment cost and requires regular backwashing.
